ZVEX Effects

Founded in 1994, ZVEX has always had a reputation for creating otherworldly effects pedals that will simply transform any anaemic-sounding guitar and amp setup into flourishing sonic nirvana. They have to be heard to be believed!

Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota; ZVEX Effects’ founder Zachary Vex has been often described by his peers as a “mad scientist” who abandons any conventional pedal norms and creates completely original and inspired circuits. ZVEX are most renowned for their diverse range of fuzz, distortion and boost pedals, but the company also produces modulation effects and even step sequencers.

ZVEX Effects arguably made its name with its legendary Fuzz Factory pedal, debuting in 1995. Considered a modern classic, ZVEX’s flagship Fuzz Factory remains incredibly popular for its spluttery ’60s-style fuzz sound that can be twisted and manipulated to offer a multitude of crazy, high-gain textures with glitchy overtones. Muse’s Matt Bellamy loves the Fuzz Factory so much, that he has its circuit fitted in most of his custom Manson guitars!

The ZVEX pedal range is currently split into two. Their USA offerings all feature unique hand-painted artwork, meaning that no two are identical! The ‘Vexter’ series encompasses all of ZVEX’s most famous pedal designs, but these stompboxes feature silk-screened artwork – making them more affordable.

  • ZVEX Effects Power Plate

Ernie Ball Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings are made from nickel plated steel wire wrapped around tin plated hex shaped steel core wire.
  • The Channel 2 is derived from the second channel of our Super Duper 2-in-1 pedal. This is a small footprint pedal that covers the range from unity gain line buffer, to a light transparent overdrive. Think of it as the second channel on your amp, or as a line buffer, or as a boost that adds sparkle.
  • The Fuzzolo is a raging beast of a fuzz. We managed to squeeze this wild thing into a small box to save real estate on pedal boards, and because we could. The Fuzzolo has two controls: Volume (post gain), and Pulse Width. The Fuzzolo is equally devastating on guitar and bass.
  • This pedal is a modified version of our Box of Rock’s Distortron Engine. The improvements include a gain boost switch for added sizzle and a sub control switch with 3 levels. The amounts were carefully selected to reduce “flubbiness” that occurs when using amps with heavy low-end response. It would be immodest of me to suggest that this ZVEX effect is the greatest distortion pedal of all time, but it probably is. Try it last in your chain, and beat it up with your other effects... it stacks like a dream.
  • The Mastotron™ is a new, heavy silicon fuzz design that includes a couple of unusual features... source impedance control, subs control, and pulse width control. It works equally well with bass and guitar, and can easily be interfaced with digital devices like recorders as well as keyboards.
  • Vexter Series pedals are lower priced, featuring UV printed artwork. The parts inside Vexters are identical to the hand painted pedals.
  • Packed with knobs that let you control everything from tight, radically fuzzy sounds that gate off instantly when you stop playing, to intermodulating oscillations that fight for control of your guitar as your notes decay, to shortwave radio sounds, ripping velcro and octave-like fuzz.
  • This 25th Anniversary Vexter Series Fuzz Factory features UV printed art. The parts inside are identical to the hand painted model.
  • This Box of Rock™ simulates Zachary’s favorite amp turned up all the way, a 1966 Marshall® JTM45. The tone control adjusts brightness and there’s a high-headroom low-noise boost.
  • The ’59 Sound is based on the legendary 1959 Tweed Fender Bassman. The ’59 Sound captures the essence of that magical amplifier.
  • This Vexter Series Fat Fuzz Factory features UV printed graphics to commemorate our 25th Anniversary. The parts inside Vexters are identical to the hand painted pedals.
